The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Latin American News Agencies Meet in Bolivia
The 2nd Executive Council of the Latin American Union of News Agencies (ULAN) is meeting today in this capital, with the attendance of directors, heads and delegates from nine regional public agencies. Bolivia’s Communication Minister, Amanda Davila, will open the ULAN Executive Council’s sessions at the Bolivian Executive headquarters, suggesting a possible meeting with Bolivian President Evo Morales and Vice President Alvaro Garcia.

Cuba Reiterates Importance on Biological Weapons Convention
Cuba has insisted here in the importance of the strengthening and implementation of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC), whose objective is to prevent the development and proliferation of those arsenals. Addressing a BTWC meeting, Cuba representative Juan Antonio Quintanilla explained some actions his country has implemented to comply with what was established by that accord and protect human being and environment.

Cuban Parliament to Debate Measures of Popular Interest
Cuban legislators will debate measures of popular interest from July 20 to 22, in many cases related to the implementation of the Economic and Social Policy Guideline of the Draft Party Program, approved by the 6th Congress of the PCC. The analysis, prior to the 9th Ordinary Period of Sessions to begin Monday, July 23, is the result of the work carried out by hundreds of legislators, and reflects many opinions collected in visits to work places, neighborhood people’s councils, and neighborhood meetings of delegates.

South Africans to Celebrate Mandelaâ Ös 94th Birthday
The 94th birthday of Nelson Mandela (July 18, 1918) will be celebrated by South Africans nationwide tomorrow, according to media reports quoting government officials. President Jacob Zuma said in a communiqué to have informed Mandela in a recent meeting that “as always, all South Africans are waiting for July 18 to wish him a happy birthday in all possible ways.”

Global Village, Learning and Sharing on HIV / AIDS
The Global Village, a place where diverse communities involved in the response to HIV can learn and share knowledge and leadership, will meet in parallel to the 19th International AIDS Conference, from July 22 to 27 (AIDS 2012). Cuba Suggests in Geneva Collaboration on Biosecurity
Cuba suggested at disposal of the States Parties to the Biological Weapons Convention its assistance and cooperation on biosecurity matter and the implementation of the regulations of that treaty. Addressing an experts’ meeting in this city, Cuban representative Juan Antonio Quintanilla stated that the island organizes courses and workshops every year on different questions related to that subject.

Cuban Legislators to Be Informed on Agencies” Management
Cuban legislators will receive today the reports from three State main agencies, and learn the work carried out by two of 12 permanent working commissions. As part of activities prior to the 9th Period of Session of the Seventh Legislature of the Parliament, to be held on July 23, the Central Bank of Cuba, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, will inform the parliament about their management.

Graduates from the LatAm Medicine School Meet in Cuba
About 600 graduates from 25 countries of the Latin American Medical School (ELAM) begin today four days of discussions on the impact of their nursing care in communities and to strengthen ties with Cuba. The II International Meeting of Graduates 2012 will also promote scientific discussion, teaching and research in the project founded in 1999 by the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro.

Cuban Film to Open Cinema Festival in Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban film Habanastation will open the 7th International Children´s Cinema Festival in the Dominican Republic, to be held from July 18 to 25. The festival, with venue in this capital and Santiago de los Caballeros City, will show more than 20 films, and nine of them will vie for the prize to the best film.
