Geneva, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuba suggested at disposal of the States Parties to the Biological Weapons Convention its assistance and cooperation on biosecurity matter and the implementation of the regulations of that treaty.
Addressing an experts’ meeting in this city, Cuban representative Juan Antonio Quintanilla stated that the island organizes courses and workshops every year on different questions related to that subject.
Cuba will consider the applications of the States interested for sending experts to provide advice on biosecurity and control of biological agents or help prepare the staff.
Many countries have been already benefited from that assistance, whose results have been favorable so far, Quintanilla said.
The Cuban representative stated that his country’s authorities are currently organizing a regional seminary on the application of the Biological Weapons Convention.
The treaty, which came into force in 1975, has been ratified by 163 States. It prohibits the development, production and storage of the military arsenals of mass destructions.
