On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 24, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Central Committee, received Kim Yong Chol, a member of the Politburo of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK). During the fraternal meeting, both officials confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening the historic ties which unite the two Parties, governments and peoples.
Also Vice President of the WPK Central Committee, Yong Chol was accompanied by compañeros Kim Jong Sik, Ri Yong Chol and Pak Chong Yul, the latter ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Cuba.
Participating on the Cuban side were José Ramón Machado Ventura, PCC Central Committee second secretary; Salvador Valdés Mesa, a member of the PCC Central Committee Political Bureau; and José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, head of the PCC International Relations Department.
Prior to the meeting, the Korean official reported on the results of the Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and received information regarding agreements reached during the Seventh Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba.
