Peruvian Women Demanded Clinton toTake Action to Free the Cuban Five

Lima, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) Prominent Peruvian women demanded today of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in that northern country be released. In an open letter to Clinton, who is arriving today in this country on a two-day visit, the Peruvian women asked the government in Washington to release the five Cubans imprisoned in that country for over 14 years.

March of the Indignants Takes Streets in Colombia

Bogota, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of Colombians took to the streets of the capital to close a week in which various sectors of society claimed in favor of peace and against social inequities such as poverty, exclusion and the crisis in education and health. Convened by 116 social and popular organizations, the march on Friday covered a broad spectrum supported by peasants, indigenous pleople, students, miners, professionals and unemployed, peacefully mobilized in 25 of the 32 departments.

Syrian Forces Kill Chechen, Afghan Mercenaries

Damascus, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Arab Army (EAS) killed Czech and Afghan mercenaries during clashes in the Ziraha neighborhood in the town of Qusseir, in Homs province, an official source reported on Tuesday. As part of an offensive executed on Monday against those groups in areas near the border with Lebanon, EAS troops clashed with armed groups operating in the zone in west Homs, 162 kilometers north of Damascus.
