The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

We share the same lack of enthusiasm for letter writing, a fact clearly demonstrated during our respective internationalist missions and – more conclusively – in the unique experience of the last 20 years. US Court yet to Respond Rene Gonzalez Request to See Ailing Brother, Lawyer Says
Rene Gonzalez, one of the Cuban Five imprisoned in the United States, but who is serving time on probation since October, is still awaiting for an answer after asking the Supreme Court for permission to travel to Havana to visit his very sick brother, lawyer Philip R. Horowitz told the AFP news agency on Wednesday.

President Raul Castro sent Condolence for Late Russian Diplomat
Cuban President Raul Castro sent a message of condolence for the death of former Soviet official Vitaly Vorotnikov, whom he described as a close friend of Cuba. The text, read in the funeral of the former Soviet Presidium´s Chairman, expresses deep sorrow for the death of Vorotnikov, remembered “with affection and respect” in Cuba.”Please, receive my deepest sympathy and the testimony of my consideration,” says the note read by Cuban Ambassador to Russia Juan Valdes at the funeral of Vorotnikov, who was ambassador of the former Soviet Union to Havana.

A Species in Danger, Cuba Warns the World
Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto talked of the need for a new alert to a world that is going over the edge, at the presentation of the website A Species in Danger. Speaking to the intellectuals attending the 21st Havana Book Fair, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Prieto highlighted the call made by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to fight every day against the irrationality prevailing on the planet.

Cries of love to Havana, to Cuba
The evening runs from its blue into the golden nuances , in Havana horizon. Groups of young people full of excitement and eager to share preferences and feelings are occupying the yard of the Cuba Pavilion in the heart of Vedado. The usual venue of the exhibition Art in La Rampa, venue of the International Book Fair of Havana, and which also houses the Association “Hermanos Saiz”, is invaded by the love of Cuban youth.

Cuba Condemns Tightening of U.S. Blockade
The economic, commercial and financial U.S. blockade against Cuba has now been in force for 50 years, and its harrasment and siege mechanisms are being strengthened, the cuban Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday. In an interview with the Prensa Latina news agency, Anayansi Rodriguez, head of Multilateral Affairs, denied that the measure enacted on February 7, 1962, by then U.S. President John F. Kennedy, is being applied with more flexibility, as the White House claims.

As one might have expected, Bloomberg and Reuters dutifully shaded their reports on the recent visit to Cuba of Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff with mentions of the Yoani Sánchez Twitter campaign to pressure Rousseff to intercede on Sánchez’s behalf and persuade the Cuban government to grant her an exit visa to attend a propaganda event in Brazil.

Cuban Party Meeting Debates End
The First Conference of Cuba’s Communist Party is scheduled to end today two days of debates focused on intensifying the organization’s work and its role in updating the country’s economic model. More than 800 delegates are discussing the operation, methods and working style of the party, the political and ideological work, the cadres’ training and the party links with the Young Communist League (UJC) and other grassroots organizations.
