The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Mexican Businessmen Condemn US Blockade vs. Cuba
Mexico, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) Mexican business people condemned today the U.S. government”s blockade against Cuba, in a statement in which they also expressed their solidarity with the people of the Caribbean island. The Mexico-Cuba Bilateral Committee said in a letter addressed to Cuban ambassador in this country Dagoberto Rodriguez, whose unjust policy the Cubans have faced for 52 years, which has been the main obstacle for the economic and social development of the country.

Election Runoff to be held on November 4th
Havana, Oct 31, (RHC), — Cuba will carry out the second round of municipal elections next Sunday November 4th, after they were postponed due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy on most part of the national territory, which was severely hit by strong winds and torrential rains. However the runoff will exclude the provinces of Holguin and Santiago de Cuba, which were the hardest hit by Sandy and where current circumstances impede the celebration of the electoral exercise.

Raul Castro in Santiago de Cuba
Havana, October 28 (RHC). – President Raul Castro met in Santiago de Cuba with the local authorities of the Communist Party and government to analyze the situation of the province in the wake of devastating Hurricane Sandy on Wednesday. The weather phenomenon left more than 130,000 homes affected, of which 55,000 to total collapse and damage the economy millionaires. The head of state stressed the need to find immediate solutions to the needs of the population and recognized the effort made in the reconstruction.

Fidel Castro Praises Nutritious Properties of Moringa and Mulberry
Havana, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, praised again today the properties of Moringa Oleifera and mulberry plants as nutritious alternatives. Moringa, “originally from India, is the only plant that has every kind of amino acid. With proper planting and management, its green-leaf production can exceed 300 tons per hectare in a year. It has dozens of medicinal properties,” Fidel said in an article posted at the Cubadebate website, in response to a reader.

Fidel Castro criticizes health rumours as fresh pictures emerge
Havana, Oct 22, (RHC), — Cuban Revolutionary leader, Fidel Castro criticized those who spread rumours about him being seriously ill in an article published Monday by Cuban media. Fidel Castro has insisted he is in very good health and can’t even remember “what a headache feels like”. Photographs of the revolutionary leader looking the picture of health, as he strolled around a farm wearing a straw hat and plaid shirt were also released on Monday.

More than 7 million Cubans exercise their voting right: official report
Havana, Oct 21, (RHC), — Until 14:00 local time of Sunday, more than 7 million 244 thousand people had exercised their voting rights in Cuba’s municipal elections, accounting for 82.65 percent of eligible voters. According to a report of the National Electoral Commission (CEN), Sunday’s vote has taken place without any irregularities, with the exception of occasional rains in some part of the national territory

Cuba’s Migration Policy Updated
As part of the work undertaken to update the current migration policy adjusting it to prevailing conditions in the present and the foreseeable future, the Cuban government has decided to forgo the required Travel Permit as well as the Letter of Invitation. Therefore, as from January 14th, 2013, it will only be necessary to submit the ordinary passport, duly updated, and the visa issued by the country of destination, in those cases when it is required.

China Denounces U.S. Blockade against Cuba
Beijing, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The failure of the U.S. blockade policy against Cuba for over 50 years and its intentions to isolate that country were stated in this capital by the island”s ambassador in this capital, Alberto Blanco . During a press conference at the Cuban embassy in Beijing, the diplomat denounced the Washington unilateral and punitive policy that will be submitted for the 21st time at the U.N. UN: Leaders Oppose Unilateral Measures
United Nations, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) The heads of State and Government of one hundred countries reaffirmed their rejection of the promulgation of unilateral economic, financial and commercial sanctions that prevent a full economic and social development. They said those actions particularly hit underdeveloped countries, according to a statement approved in a high level meeting of the UN General Assembly on the Rule of Law.
