Statement by ALBA-TCP on the mecanism of Montevideo

logo_alba_0The countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), based on their  profound mission for peace and respect for International Law:

  1. Express their full support for the Mechanism of Montevideo established by Mexico, Uruguay, CARICOM and Bolivia aimed at attending to the situation in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, based on the principles of non-intervention in the domestic affairs of countries, the legal equality of States, the peaceful resolution of disputes, the respect for human rights and the self-determination of the peoples.
  1. Reject the attempts to impose conditions that involve the violation of the constitutional order in force in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
  1. Reaffirm their commitment with Article 2 (4) of the United Nations Charter by which its Members, in their international relations, must refrain from resorting to threats or the use of force against the territorial integrity or political Independence of any State, or in any other form incompatible with the purposes of the United Nations.
  1. Emphasize the importance of defending the region of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, wishes proclaimed in the declaration signed by the Heads of State and/or Government of Latin America and the Caribbean during the Second Summit Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on the 29th of January of 2014 in Havana, Cuba.
