The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuba and the United States to Discuss Health and Law Enforcement Issues

Cuba and the United States will continue bilateral talks on a technical level, particularly on health and law enforcement, Foreign Ministry official Josefina Vidal announced in Washington at the end of the third round of negotiations to re-establish diplomatic relations.

UN Secretary-General recognizes Vietnam as Outstanding

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon recognized Vietnam as a responsible and active member, during a visit which concluded here today inaugurating the Green House number one of the world Organization. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Pham Binh Minh, he opened the doors to a building designed by the hosts to bring together all the UN agencies represented in the country and express its multilateral commitment.

Statement by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Relations

On Thursday, May 21, the third round of conversations between Cuba and the United States regarding the process of reestablishing diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies in both countries, will be held in Washington. This encounter will be a continuation of previous talks held on January 22, in Havana and February 27, in Washington, as well as a follow-up meeting which took place in the Cuban capital, March 16. The Cuban delegation will be presided by Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Ministry of Foreign Relations directorgeneral for the United States.

Process to Restore Ties With US Is Going Well, Says Raul Castro

Cuban President Raul Castro said today that the process of re-establishing ties with the United States is going well, but we are setting ”our own pace”. Castro said that US President Barack Obama has the executive power to submit to the Congress – as he already did- the order to exclude Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism List. The deadline to deal with that matter is met in a few days, said Castro referring to Obama’s decision to exclude Cuba from the list, and announced that then they will move on to appoint each country ambassadors.

Senator Robert Menendez Asks for Change of Venue of Inquiry

The legal proceeding against US democratic senator, Robert Menendez acquires today new nuances after the legislators requested to move the federal investigation of the government from New Jersey to this capital. Menendez, who faces 14 charges by the prosecution, based his request this Monday under the criterion that almost none of the accusations occurred in the Northeastern territory that he represents in the Upper House. In Spanish Television it can be discussed what is the best method to impose a policy change on Cuba

Major media – Spanish media for example- say categorically that there is no press freedom (1) in Cuba and show with their daily practice, what this press freedom is. The public channel 24 hours of Spanish Television offered last April 10th a wonderful practise lesson. Its space called “Table today” reviewed, among other news, the Summit of the Americas celebrated in Panama, where met for first time in 50 years, the presidents of Cuba and the United States.

Cuba Opens US Basketball Camp

The National Basketball Association (NBA) opened in this capital a sports Camp aimed at supporting the development of basketball in Cuba. Also protected by FIBA America and the local Federation, the event -being part of the Basketball without Border program- will end on Sunday, April 26, and provides a program of clinics and lectures for children, young basketball players and referees.
