The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Stevenson has left us. The news arrived yesterday after 4:00 p.m. No other amateur boxer shone so much in the history of that sport. He could have achieved another two Olympic titles hadn’t it been for certain duties that the principles of internationalism imposed on the Revolution. No money in the world would have been enough to bribe Stevenson. Glory be to his memory forever!

World Champ Debuts in PanAm Games
The 16th Pan American boxing tournament will begin Friday, when one of the best boxers in Latin America, Brazilian Everton Lopes, now the World Champion in the 64-kg division, will make his debut. Lopes will compete for the first time in Guadalajara, after proclaiming himself World Champion in Baku, Azerbaijan. His first contender will be Dominican Ricardo Garcia.

Cuba Defeats Holland 4-1 in Rotterdam
Coming off an embarrassing loss to Curacao on Friday, Cuba defeated the much tougher host Holland team on Sunday, by a score of 4-1 at the World Port Baseball Tournament in Rotterdam. Yadier Pedroso pitched a complete game allowing scattering five hits and striking out nine. He lost a shutout bid when Holland scored a lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Cuban Disabled Athlete Sets World Record in Ball Control
Cuban disabled athlete Lazaro Curbelo Pupo set a new world record in ball control when he hit a football 183 times without letting it touch ground while carrying 105 pounds on his shoulders. This is the sixth such record for Curbelo, who suffers from dwarfism, and has become an expert on ball control with weights. “I felt a little nervous because I hadn’t tried a new record for over a year. I had to call on all my will to overcome the challenge. After so much sacrifice I couldn’t let down all the people that loves me and came to see me”.

One had to be there to see it: A sea of people on the streets despite the heat, the strong sunlight and the long wait to welcome the baseball team. After a tour through several municipalities of the province the team of Alfonso Urquiola returned to Pinar del Rio where tens of thousands were awaiting to thank him for the dream come true of being champions again.
