The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Micro, small and medium-sized businesses in Cuba: A smooth start
The creation in Cuba of micro, small and medium-size businesses (MSMEs), as part of the overhauling of the economic actors has risen an intensive debate and a lot of expectations, especially in the non-state sector. As it has was recently reported by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning (MEP) Alejandro Gil Fernández on Cuban television’s Mesa Redonda program, they are currently working at an accelerated pace in the norms that will rule the organization and functioning of these companies dedicated to the production of goods and services.

Cuba is sports, as well
Over these first days of August, Cuba has won the most medals thus far during the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games, a total of seven, including the golds of Mijaín López, with his fourth Olympic crown, Luis Orta, with his first, and the Cuban rowing duo of Serguey Torres and Fernando Dayán, who closed a magical day, giving the Cuban delegation its best day of these Games. An impressive young Luis Orta, gave another wrestling dissertation to win the title, and not to mention Mijaín López, with a final in which he showed himself to as strong as ever.

A right jab to the face of the right wing
A Cuban-born boxer representing Spain, upon learning that he would face Julio Cesar La Cruz in the quarterfinals, excited haters of the Revolution with his bragging and offensive sloganeering, but lost the bout. With action and words, as if all of Cuba was speaking in his voice and posture, Julio Cesar La Cruz responded in the Olympic ring. The provocative comments of his rival Enmanuel Reyes, a Cuban-born boxer nationalized in Spain, upon learning that he would face La Cruz in the quarterfinals, roused those who encourage hate and demonize the Revolution.

“I am here because the vaccine is Cuban”
The first 10,000 Venezuelans, of the four million projected, are receiving their three doses of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine in Ciudad Tiuna, in the Caracas municipality of Libertador. It could be the human aspect of the work, the confidence returned, the lives saved here. Or perhaps the thousand and one expressions of brotherhood that have marked the hopes of Venezuela, over more than two decades.

Cuba thanks Russia for humanitarian aid
July 25, two An-124 aircraft landed at Havana’s José Martí International Airport, carrying 88 tons of food and a million medical facemasks, as part of a donation from the Russian Federation. Party Political Bureau member and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla posted a tweet thanking Russia for a humanitarian donation that arrived in Cuba aboard two aircraft July 25.

Analysts criticize Biden’s policy towards Cuba
U.S. President Joe Biden is now playing the humanitarian card to foment political unrest in Cuba, according to a report published today by the website www.strategic-culture.org. Written by Ramona Wadi, journalist and independent researcher, the report deals with the latest events in Cuba, Washington’s involvement and the aggression faced by the Antillean nation. The analyst pointed out that the assumption that military intervention would solve the situation in Cuba only illustrates how the interests of anti-Cuban groups in Miami are aligned with those of the United States.

Putting heart into the homeland, the Revolution and socialism
Thousands of Cubans took to the streets Saturday to defend our right to peace and sovereignty, to say no to the blockade, interference and hatred. In all of the country’s provinces the people came out in defense of their Revolution and in support of our revolutionary project being constructed for the good of all. – In Havana, alongside the people, was Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution; the Party First Secretary and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

China reiterates call to US to lift blockade against Cuba
China on Monday reiterated its call to the United States Government to immediately and completely lift the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed against Cuba, after highlighting that it is a global claim. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian deplored the permanence of such policy although the international community has rejected it consecutively at the United Nations General Assembly in the last 29 years.

President of Cuba judges universities as the future of the countryHavana, July 19 (Latin press) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, said today that universities are the future of the country, when celebrating on this date the 45th anniversary of the Ministry of Higher Education. On his Twitter account, the president congratulated teachers, workers and students of this education and recalled the years when he worked in that body. That period of work there brought me closer to universities.

Cuban President Diaz-Canel sends message of unity
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Sunday called for the people’s unity in the face of destabilization attempts, and ratified the commitment to move forward despite adversity. On his official Twitter account, the president recalled a phrase from National Hero Jose Marti: ‘Men go on two sides: those who love and found, and those who hate and undo,’ and assured that Cuba ‘will continue founding.’ In another tweet, Diaz-Canel pointed out that when the people have come so far in the realization of their dreams, they cannot be stopped by violence or hatred.
