The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuba: Covid-19 vaccination for children to begin in September
The sample is divided into two groups: the first made up of adolescents from 12 to 18 and the second of children from three to 11. The objective of the trial is to evaluate the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of these candidates. Meanwhile, a pediatric clinical trial with Abdala candidate begins today in the province of Camagüey, with nearly 600 children and adolescents from that territory volunteering in two phases.

Havana about to complete anti-Covid-19 vaccination with ‘Abdala’
Three municipalities in the capital closed their vaccination process against Covid-19 with ‘Abdala’, as part of the strategy to immunize all inhabitants by the end of July, news media highlighted today. Health authorities are leading the process with this local product to also ensure that 60 percent of Cubans get their three doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccine shots by next August.

Efficacy of 91.2% with two doses of Soberana 02 and one of Soberana Plus
Results of clinical trials of this combination of Soberana candidate vaccines were announced yesterday at a meeting of the government’s COVID-19 task force, led by First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. The combination of two doses of the candidate vaccine Soberana 02 and one of Soberana Plus administered in a 0-28-56 day regimen, was found to have an efficacy of 91.2 percent, in preventing symptomatic cases of COVID-19, reported Dr. Vicente Vérez Bencomo, director of the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV).

National leadership travels to central Cuba
Communist Party Central Committee First Secretary and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz met yesterday with authorities in Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos, provinces which until recently were controlling new COVID-19 infections, but are now experiencing a dangerous increase in cases. Through the first half of June, Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos had been able to control new COVID-19 infections in their territories.

Cecmed approves clinical trials with Abdala in pediatric age group
The study will include 592 children and adolescents between three and 18 years of age. The Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (Cecmed), on July 2, approved the initiation of clinical trials in the pediatric age group of Cuba’s anti-COVID candidate vaccine Abdala, produced by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. As reported on the Mesa Redonda television program, the trials will include 592 children and adolescents between three and 18 years of age.

Isle of Youth vaccinated, hope grows on the big island
The completion of the sanitary intervention here ,with Cuba’s Abdala candidate vaccine, qualifies as a milestone in the country’s battle against COVID-19, with the regimen of three doses administered to the Isle of Youth’s 50,503 inhabitants, 95.6% of the eligible population. Dr. Victor Doeste Hernandez, coordinator of the intervention, reported to Granma that this figure represents 77% of residents over 19 years of age and 60% of the total population on the Isle of Youth.

Cinicial trials of Soberana-Pediatria in children 3-11 years of age begin
The study of the Cuban anti-COVID candidate vaccine will include 350 children and adolescents, 50 in Phase I and 300 in Phase II, conducted in an overlapping and gradual process, in strict compliance with protocols and best practices. Following verification of the candidate’s safety in a group of adolescents aged 12 to 18, clinical trials of Soberana-Pediatria continue with the inclusion of a second group of volunteers in the three to 11 age group, Yury Valdes Balbin, assistant director of the Finlay Vaccine Institute, reported.

Abdala, with three doses, demonstrates 92.28% efficacy
Communist Party First Secretary and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on behalf of Cuba, congratulates researchers who in 13 months achieved a global milestone. A three-dose regimen of the Abdala candidate vaccine has demonstrated an efficacy of 92.28 percent, placing it well above the World Health Organization (WHO) requirement of at least 50 percent, to be recognized as an anti-COVID-19 vaccine.

Over 9,000 patients have received regenerative medicine treatment in Villa Clara
The Regenerative Medicine Services Center in the central province of Villa Clara has treated over 9,300 individuals since its creation ten years ago. Mainly serving those living in the region, they have significantly improved quality of life with the use of innovative techniques. “The use of regenerative medicine seeks to repair, replace and regenerate cells, tissues and organs with the aim of restoring or recovering the regular functioning of the body,” explains Dr. Manuel Antonio Arce González, researcher at the Unit of Biomedical Research in Villa Clara and head of the Regenerative Medicine Services in the territory.
