Cuban medicine achieves over 95% heart surgery survival rate

8,295 patients treated with stem cells

By the end of the first half of this year, the total number of patients treated with stem cells in Cuba had reached 8,295, Dr. Porfirio Hernández, deputy director of Research at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology, told Granma. First used in Cuba in February 2004, the advanced procedure is now offered in 14 of the 15 provinces of the country, with the specialties of orthopedics and traumatology, and angelology, seeing the most cases treated with 4,059 (49%) and 3,511 (42%), respectively.

Cuban Mission in Paraguay Surpasses 5,500 Surgeries

The Miracle Mission of the Cuban collaborators in Paraguay surpasses today about 5,520 eye surgeries performed in the course of this year. Their work in 2015 began on January 26 for being the staff on holiday and closed on September 1 with 5,521 surgeries, of which 1,605 were of cataract, totaling 25,655 operations in eight years.
