US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania have tested positive for COVID-19 that were made this Thursday, as confirmed by the president himself on his Twitter profile.
“Tonight, Melania and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We’ll get through it together! ”The White House tenant tweeted.
The presidential couple underwent a COVID-19 test on Thursday after confirming the positive diagnosis of one of the president’s closest advisers, Hope Hicks.
The 31-year-old woman flew aboard Air Force One to Cleveland (Ohio) on Tuesday, where Trump participated in the first debate with Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
This week, Hicks traveled with the president several times, including in the official Marine One helicopter to attend a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday.
Previously, and after the rumors of contagion from the president’s adviser, Judd Deere, a spokesman for the White House, said in a statement: “The president takes the health and safety of himself and all those who they work to support him and the American people. ”
Several White House staff members tested positive for the virus, including Katie Miller, Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary, national security adviser Robert O’Brien and one of the president’s personal aides.
Following confirmation of positive cases close to the president, the White House instituted a daily testing regimen for Trump’s senior advisers; as well as other people who are close to the president and vice president, including journalists, who also undergo tests every day.
The White House reported the cancellation of President Trump’s scheduled visit to Florida, where he was supposed to attend an election festival, as he is in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19.
