The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Young Cubans Going to International Science Olympiads
Four young Cubans will participate in the upcoming international science Olympics, in the fields of Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics and Chemistry. The knowledge competition will be held from July 14 until October 10, Juventud Rebelde newspaper reported.

Russia’s Premier Medvedev meets Cuban President
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has met on Wednesday with Cuban President Raul Castro, who kicked off on Tuesday a working visit to Russia. The Cuban head of state arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, after touring long-time friends China and Vietnam.

Raul Castro to Begin Russia’s Work Visit
Cuban President Raul Castro will carry out a working visit to Russia as of tomorrow, after a tour that took him to China and Vietnam, official sources reported. According to the note, the statesman will be accompanied by Minister Council Vice President Ricardo Cabrisas and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez. Raul Castro will meet with that country’s President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev, and pay tribute to the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution, Vladimir Ilich Lenin, Cuban media reported.

Cuba Exhorts at UN to Eradicate Illegal Arms Trafficking
United Nations, Jul 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuba exhorted at the United Nations to reach an international accord to prevent, fight and eradicate illegal arms trafficking, in which many people and States currently suffer from its negative consequences. Addressing the UN Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, Cuban ambassador to that body Rodolfo Benitez Verson stated that his country will not support any treaty that affects the legitimate interests of the island’s defense and national security.

Rene González Doesn’t Want to be a U.S. Citizen
Two notes associated with the case of the Cuban Five which happened to be published recently by various Cuban media outlets on the same day, deal with issues so obvious, and at the same time so ignored by U.S. authorities, that it’s worth comparing the headlines. The first had to do with the new motion presented by Rene González’s attorney, asking once again for the same thing that was called for before he left prison: that he be allowed to return to Cuba, where his home and family are.

Cuba Calls General Elections
Havana, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s Council of State has called general elections to choose delegates to municipal and provincial assemblies of the Peoples’ Power, as well as deputies to the National Parliament. According to an official note published by Granma newspaper, the call takes place in accordance with provisions of the Constitution of the Republic and the Electoral Law No.72 in force since October 29, 1992.

Cuban President Raul Castro Visits China
Beijing, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuba”s President Raul Castro began today an official visit to China, focused on strengthening bilateral relations, through the signing of some cooperation agreements. According to reports, the Cuban head of State also expects to talk with his Chinese peer Hu Jintao and other top authorities about international and regional issues of common interest.

Belarus´ Lukashenko to hold talks with Cuban President Raul Castro
Havana, June 25, (RHC), — The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, is set to hold official talks on Monday in Havana with his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro Ruz. Also on Monday, the Belarusian head of state will pay tribute to Cuba´s National Hero Jose Marti at the martyr´s monument in Havana’s iconic Revolution Square.
