The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Liberia Is Free of Ebola, World Health Organization Declares
The World Health Organization declared Liberia free of Ebola today, making it the first of the three hardest hit West African countries to bring a formal end to the epidemic. More than 4,608 deaths from Ebola have been recorded in Liberia, more than in any other affected country. Neighbouring Guinea and Sierra Leone continue to fight the outbreak that has claimed more than 10,000 lives across the region since last year.

French President to Arrive in Cuba Tomorrow
President of France, François Hollande, will arrive in Cuba tomorrow for an official visit. During his stay, Hollande will hold talks with Cuban President Raul Castro, and will carry out other activities, Granma newspaper reported. The President will arrive in Cuba from Guadalupe, as part of a Caribbean tour that also included the French overseas territories Martinique, St. Martin and St. Barts, and that will continue afterwards to Haiti. Hollande, of the Socialist Party (PS), became President of France in May 2012, after winning his opponent Nicolas Sarkozy -candidate of Union for a Popular Movement- in the second round of the elections.

Dutch Foreign Minister Describes Visit to Cuba as Positive
The Foreign Minister of the Netherlands, Bert Koenders, described as positive his visit to Cuba, a Caribbean nation with which his country wants today to strengthen bilateral relations. In that sense, he expressed the interest of the Netherlands -Cuba’s important trade partner within the European Union (EU)- to increase ties of cooperation in agriculture, tourism, energy, ecology, education, and culture. After describing his visit as fruitful and positive, the foreign minister stated that a Dutch trade mission, aimed at strengthening economic relations, is expected to visit the Caribbean island next year.

Results of Cuban Lung-Cancer Vaccine to Be Presented in Cuba
The final results of the study confirming the effectiveness of CIMAvax-EGF in advanced lung cancer will be presented at an international workshop to be held in Havana on May 12-13. The implementation of the vaccine-conceived by experts of the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM)- in primary health care, its overall safety profile and post-registration experiences in other countries, will also be discussed at the V International Workshop on the subject, to be held at Havana’s Conference Center.

Cuban Medical Brigade Travels to Nepal to Help Earthquake Victims
The 41st Brigade of the International Contingent Specializing in Facing Disasters and Major Epidemics Henry Reeve, leaves today for Nepal, where the group will assist the victims of the earthquake of last april 25. The group, composed of 49 professionals, including 25 doctors of various specialties, was ready in short time, according to a report released in the Granma newspaper. Marcia Cobas, deputy minister of the Ministry of Public Health, said that in 24 hours they were ready specialists and equipment.

The 8th Cuban Day against Homophobia and Transphobia began this Tuesday with a press conference and the inauguration of the photo exhibition Continuing Forward by U.S. artist Byron Motley at the National Center for Sex Education (Ce nesex) headquarters, which along with the Cuban Workers’ Federation has organized an extensive program of activities, which will continue through May 23 across the provinces of Havana and Las Tunas.

Increase in tourist arrivals to Cuba
According to Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, despite a difficult global situation, so far this year the Cuban destination has seen a 15% increase in tourist arrivals, in comparison with the same period last year. Speaking at the first event of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba2015), which opened its doors in the Hotel Meliá Jardines del Rey, the official stated that the country is experiencing a process of change in the sector and the arrival of more than 1.5 million visitors so far this year demonstrates an increase in established markets and others experiencing a preference for Cuba.

Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz arrived in the Russian capital this afternoon, May 5, to participate in activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of fascism’s defeat during WWII, on the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. Coming from Algeria where he completed a three-day official visit, Raúl was received at Vnukovo II Airport by deputy foreign minister Serguei Ryabkov and Tatiana Anódina, president of the State Aviation Committee.
