The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Chilean Students to March Again for Pubic Education
Santiago de Chile, Sep 25 (Prensa Latina) Chilean students will hit the streets on Thursday to demand again a public, free and high-quality education system, at all levels of education, announced today leaders of various organizations. At a press conference, representatives of the Chilean Students Confederation (CONFECH), the Coordinator of Secondary Students (CONES) and the Coordinating Assembly of Secondary Students also made a call for citizens to to join the protest.

UN: Leaders Oppose Unilateral Measures
United Nations, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) The heads of State and Government of one hundred countries reaffirmed their rejection of the promulgation of unilateral economic, financial and commercial sanctions that prevent a full economic and social development. They said those actions particularly hit underdeveloped countries, according to a statement approved in a high level meeting of the UN General Assembly on the Rule of Law.

UNASUR Begins Electoral Support in Venezuela
Caracas, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) The monitoring of the electoral process in the leadup to the presidential elections on October 7 in Venezuela will begin today with the arrival of Argentine Carlos “Chacho” Alvarez, chairman of the UNASUR Monitoring Committee. Argentina’s former vice president during the term of Fernando de la Rua, and minister of the Latin American Integration Association (Aladi) since August 2011, Alvarez is expected here today, where he will meet with the main authorities of the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Ecuador: Sweden Could Contribute to Solve Assange’s Case
Quito, Sep 14 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), María Isabel Salvador, said that Sweden could contribute to solve the case of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. “I think the solution should come from Sweden, with a way, a light, in order to prevent Assange for being extradited to the United States or make what Ecuador is proposing,” the diplomat said in an interview with Prensa Latina in this capital.

World Solidarity with Cuban Antiterrorists Detained in USA
Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) About 100 activities in support of the cause of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters detained in the United States will be carried out today in over 31 countries, after 14 years of unjust punishment. Those men turn today 14 years of lockup, hence we have promoted this campaign of denunciation, Graciela Ramirez, coordinator of the International Committee to Free the Five, told reporters.

Popular Tribute in Chile to Coup Victims
Santiago de Chile, Sept 11 (Prensa Latina) Groups of students, unions, academics and other social organizations pay homage today to the victims of the coup that 39 years ago overthrew President Salvador Allende, and established Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship. The remembrance activities include events at the monument to President Allende, located in front of the Palacio de La Moneda, which on September 11, 1973 was attacked by soldiers and bombed by the Air Force to overthrow the Popular Unity government.

The National Agency of Telecommunications (Anatel) will measure the speed and stability of connections of fixed broadband by subscribers all over the country, a decision that will fulfill a presidential decree to assess and monitor internet services provided by private companies.
