The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Vice President Díaz–Canel leads Cuban delegation to CELAC-European Union Summit
First Vice President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez is leading the country’s delegation to the 2nd Summit between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union, scheduled June 10-11 in Brussels.

International Conference on Political Communication in the Digital Sphere Begins in Havana
The first International Conference “New Scenarios of the Political Communication in the digital sphere” was inaugurated this morning with the participation of 100 experts and delegates from more than 30 countries. With representation from all regions of the world and summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this international conference aims at generating a debate on the development of the communications and information technologies and their impact on the system of international relations, as well as in the political communication in the digital sphere.

U.S. State Department identifies Posada Carriles as planner of 1976 terrorist attack
A declassified 1976 State Department document identifies Luis Posada Ca rriles as the most likely author of a terrorist attack on a Cuban airliner that year which took the lives of all 76 passengers aboard.
The memorandum, released June 3, illustrates the department’s concern regarding ties between the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and extremist Cuban émigré groups in South Florida.

Díaz-Canel visits new packaging plant
Cuban Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez Durante visited a new packaging plant outside the provincial capital of Pinar del Río, where the latest technology is been installed to manufacture foldable boxes. Destined to primarily serve the pharmaceutical industry, the plant should begin operations in the second half of 2016, and will subsequently be expanded.

Carlos Ricardo Pérez Díaz, director of the Cuban medical brigade – part of the Henry Reeve Contingent specializing in natural disasters and large-scale epidemics – currently working in Atacama, Chile, agreed to respond to some questions from Granma International. Working as a resident in Havana and Internal Medicine specialist for over 15 years, Pérez Díaz noted that the brigade is coping well.

The University as a promoter of social and cultural change
Cuba is hosting the XIII Latin American University Extension Congress, as the 100th anniversary of the Córdoba Reform draws close. This historical event, initiated in Argentina in 1918, laid the foundation of the social role of Latin American universities. Inaugurated yesterday June 1, the Congress is being held at Havana’s Convention Center, with more than 400 delegates from 20-some countries in attendance.

Pele Visits Havana for a Friendly Match
The famed Brazilian ex-footballer Pele arrived here with the club New York Cosmos, which will hold on Tuesday a friendly match with the national team at the Pedro Marrero Stadium. Pele and the leader of the visiting team, the Spanish footballer Raul Gonzalez Blanco, were hailed by journalists and the public late-night while leaving the Jose Marti International Airport.

Lebanese business people traveled today to Cuba very optimist of expanding trade horizons during official meetings and an economic forum that will be used prior their participation, for the first time, at the Havana International Fair. Resuming of Iberia Flights to Cuba Boosts Tourism
With the announcement today of the resumption of flights to Cuba, Iberia airline”s reinforces the progressive trend of tourism in the island, that has already accumulated a year over three million visitors. The flights of the Spanish transport company were suspended two years ago, and the new version of these trips will bring five times a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday).
