Cuba reaffirms unwavering solidarity with the Bolivarian, Chavista people

canel y DercyCuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reiterated Cuba’s unwavering solidarity with the Bolivarian, Chavista people when he received the Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, January 16, leading a government delegation on a working visit to our country.

During the fraternal meeting, the two leaders emphasized the excellent state of the bilateral relations and discussed topics of interest in their respective nations, as well as the regional and international situation. The Venezuelan Vice President repudiated the recent decision by the U.S. government to include Cuba on its unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism and tighten the blockade of the island.

Accompanying the distinguished visitor were Asdrúbal Chávez, president of the country’s state oil company PDVSA, and Adán Chávez Frías, ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Cuba. Participating on the Cuban side, were Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz and Party Political Bureau member Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In statements to the press, Delcy Rodríguez addressed an agreement reached on the creation of a bi-national observatory to confront illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed by the U.S. and other countries, and referred to the benefits of Venezuela’s Anti-Blockade Law for National Development and the Human Rights Guarantee, approved in Caracas last October 8.

She noted that Cuba has battled for decades against a criminal blockade, imposed with total disregard for international law, adding that Venezuela is now facing the same hostile policy. “We can say with certainty what this economic war is all about: The intention is to asphyxiate our countries by all means and to prevent any type of foreign currency income,” she added.
