Cuban and Kenyan Foreign Ministers discuss efforts to win release of abducted doctors

Via his official Twitter account, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla reported, August 28, that he had held a lengthy dialogue with his Kenyan counterpart to address the sensitive issue.

“I conversed on the telephone with Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Raychelle Awour Omamo. We discussed the situation of our doctors abducted in this country, reviewed the state of bilateral relations and analyzed our cooperation in international bodies,” he wrote.

When the news was announced, April 12, 2019, of the abduction of Assel Herrera Correa, Comprehensive General Medicine specialist from the province of Las Tunas, and surgeon Landy Rodríguez Hernández from Villa Clara, the Cuban government immediately took action to protect their lives and guarantee their safe return to the homeland. These efforts have been reported regularly, without publishing details which could compromise the endeavor.
