Viet Nam hochi minThe General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Nguyen Phu Trong, on March 28 paid tribute to the Vietnamese revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh, in a park that bears his name in the Cuban capital.

Accompanied by Mercedes López Acea, a vice president of the Council of State and a member of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Political Bureau, and José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, member of the PCC Central Committee Secretariat and head of its International Relations Department, the distinguished guest placed a floral wreath before the monument to the Vietnamese national hero.

Nguyen Phu Trong, who arrived in Havana March 28, to complete a three-day official visit to our country, was welcomed at José Martí International Airport by Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power; José Ramón Balaguer; and Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.

On March 29, the PCV general secretary held talks with Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Councils of State and Ministers, who, in a subsequent ceremony, was granted the Gold Star Order, the highest honor awarded by the Vietnamese government.

The party leader’s stay in Cuba contributed to the development of mutual political confidence and further collaboration between the two countries’ governments, parties, and people.

His intense schedule also included meetings with Cuban authorities to exchange opinions on ways to increase economic partnerships, while some 20 agreements were signed during the visit, addressing a variety of areas.
