Cuban Foreign Ministry condemns aggression against Venezuelan and Bolivian delegations in Buenos Aires

cuba-minrexThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba has learned with surprise and indignation of reports from Buenos Aires regarding the use of physical aggression against the delegations of Venezuela and Bolivia, who were attending today, December 14, 2016, a MERCOSUR meeting, an organization of which the first country is a member state and the second is in the process of entry.

The excessive violence and use of force by the police against Foreign Ministers Delcy Rodríguez Gómez and David Choquehuanca Céspedes and their companions constitute an act in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Nothing justifies the use of physical aggression in an international meeting against official representatives of other governments, one of whom, moreover, is a woman.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba condemns these acts, which would not have taken place if the understandable demands of Venezuela had been met; urges the parties to seek dialogue and negotiation, and calls for the prevention by all means of conduct typical of fascism and military dictatorships from being repeated between sister nations of our region.
