The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Esteban Lazo, New President of Cuban Parliament
Havana, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuban legislador Esteban Lazo was elected today to preside over the National Assembly of the People’s Power in its Eighth Legislatura, installed today in this capital. Through direct and secret vote, the member of Parliament also confirmed Ana Maria Mari Machado as vice president and Miriam Brito as secretary, as they did in the previous period.

Cuban Parliament Constituted in its Eighth Legislature
Havana Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) The Eighth Legislature of the People’s National Assembly was constituted here today after deputies swear to their responsibilities as part of the supreme body of state power that represents the will of the people. In the Havana Convention Center, usual venue of Parliament, those elected in the elections of February 3 presented the certificates accrediting them as members and signed their oaths, with an attendance of 98.37 percent.

Fidel Castro Meets with Russian Prime Minister
Havana, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, met with Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, in a fraternal and friendly atmosphere, media reported in this capital today. According to the note, the exchange of views between them covered the impressions of the visit to Cuba of the Russian leader, the signing of important agreements between the two countries, and other international issues.

Continuam diálogos de paz na Colômbia enfocados no tema agrário
Havana, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) The talks between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) and the government of that country continue today in the capital, after a new call for the guerrillas to cease bilateral hostilities. At the Havana’s Conference Center, permanent venue of the conversations, the parties come to this third day of talks of this fifth cycle, while the issue of truce comes to light again not only in Havana but also in Colombia, where the armed conflict has already intensified in several areas of the country for more than 50 years.

Correa: Challenge Is Making Change Irreversible

Quito, Feb 14 (Prensa Latina) Public events, music concerts, caravans, and other activities are planned today to close the election campaigns of candidates from eight political organizations competing for the presidency of Ecuador and the National Assembly. The electoral silence will start from today to February 17, the election day, in which the Ecuadorians should elect the president and vice president, 137 legislators in the National Assembly, and five members of the Andean Parliament.

Damascus, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Arab Republic”s Grand Mufti Ahmad Bader Addin Hassun insists that the nation will emerge victorious from the crisis of violence and destruction that it is currently facing. The religious leader also said that the situation falls within the context of the continuous efforts by certain countries to divide the Middle East and create pretexts to guarantee the preponderance of Israel’s interests in the region.

Spain Claims U.S. President the Release of the Cuban Five
Madrid, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) The Spanish movement of solidarity with Cuba called today U.S. President Barack Obama to immediately release the five antiterrorist fighters of the Caribbean island unjustly held since 1998 in that northern country, for preventing their people from violence. Puerta del Sol square in Madrid was the scene of a rally, in which many organizations asked the U.S. president to free Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Rene Gonzalez, and Ramon Labañino.

Iranian President: Nuclear Program is Irreversible
Tehran, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said today in this capital that his country”s nuclear program is irreversible, and the Western must recognize his nation”s right to it. “The only way to solve the dispute on the nuclear development program is through the Western powers’ collaboration,” said the Iranian president.
