Díaz-Canel highlights importance of packaging plant under construction in Pinar del Río

Diaz canel embalajeMiguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, a member of the Party Political Bureau and first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, stressed the importance of the bottling and packaging plant currently being built in this province, which should begin production by the end of the month.

Designed to supply the country’s pharmaceutical industry, the plant will be equipped with modern equipment to produce up to 400 million bottles when it reaches full capacity.

During a tour of the facility, Díaz-Canel inquired about the labor force that will operate the plant, the technology installed thus far and to be incorporated in the future, and the characteristics of the packaging to be produced for various enterprises within the BioCubaFarma group.

He also praised the efforts of constructors and investors and stressed the importance of this industry for the country.

The Cuban vice president also visited the Troncoso 1 solar farm, currently being built on the outskirts of the capital of Pinar del Río, which will have a peak generating capacity of 2.7 megawatts.

Accompanied by the First Secretary of the Party in the territory, Gladys Martínez Verdecia, and Ernesto Barreto Castillo, president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power, Díaz-Canel expressed interest in the assembly process of the photovoltaic park, the energy it would provide, and the investment’s payback period.

In this regard, Jorge Luis Arzola, director of the Hydropower Basic Enterprise Unit in the Pinar del Río, explained that the solar panels installed at this facility are manufactured in the province itself, have a more than 20-year service life and require very little maintenance.

The tour also included a meeting with the board of directors of the Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca University, and provincial education authorities, during which the Cuban first vice president received a detailed explanation regarding the ongoing integration process in higher education, which began to be implemented a year ago.

Díaz-Canel also asked about the beginning of the school year in the rest of the educational system, and aspects such as teacher coverage, while insisting on continued improvements to the curricula and enhanced teacher training.

“To continue advancing in education we must have qualified teaching staff,” he emphasized.

As part of his tour of the province, Díaz-Canel also visited the newspaper Guerrillero, and conversed with workers regarding the need for an increasingly attractive journalism, in which people feel their reality is reflected.
