The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

The American Hole lives and… DO NOT GRANT THEM YOUR SILENCE
This is the first time that Cubans on the Island can see the Special Holding Unit Prison Quarters of the United States (SHU), to go into it and if they prefer, to experience the conditions of a maximum security prison in solitary confinement, if only for five minutes. The installation reproduces a part of this type of US prison where “The Five” were prisoners having suffered a trial in Miami.

Cuba Willing to Work With U.S. to Resolve Alan Gross Case
Havana, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba reiterated its willingness to look for a resolution, along with the United States, to the case of the U.S. citizen Alan Gross, held prisoner here since 2009 for violating Cuban law. In a note released by the Ministry of Foreign Relations (MINREX), Cuba said that any resolution ought to be “acceptable for both sides, taking into account Cuba´s humanitarian concerns in relation to the case of the three Cubans from the group known as the Cuban Five.

On March 17, the official Twitter account of President Nicolás Maduro turns one year old online with simultaneous accounts in different languages, including English, conveying the South American leader’s ideas and opinions regarding the events in his country. President Maduro’s twitter account reaches non-Spanish speakers as well.

President Rousseff Praises Work of Cuban Doctors in Brazil
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff highlighted the work of Cuban health professionals that joined the program “More Doctors” and are rendering services in rural areas and special indigenous districts in this country. “They are few but are changing in depth the way that health professionals work and the doctor-patient relation in the state of Rio Grande do Sul,” said Rousseff in a Facebook post, commenting on an article about the Cuban doctors, published by the newspaper Zero Hora, in Porto Alegre.

Bolivia Promotes Quinoa and Organic Products
Beijing, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) Officials, producers and entrepreneurs from Bolivia participated today in a forum here intended to promote in China the quinoa, a nutritious Andean grain, along with other organic agricultural products from that South American nation. Led by Nemesia Achacollo, Minister of Rural Development and Land, and the Ambassador Guilleromo Chalup, along with producers and representatives of several agricultural sectors, the meeting is attended by some interested Chinese officials and businessmen.

Petrocaribe Ministerial Council Meets in Haiti
Port au Prince, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) The Council of Ministers managing the Petrocaribe energy agreement are holding a two day meeting starting today in Haiti, the eleventh of its kind, focused on development strategies in the Economic Zone itself. According to the organizers of the event, important decisions made last June in Nicaragua at the Eighth Summit of Heads of State and Government within the group are to be implemented.

Forum Opens in Havana a World Solidarity Program with the Cuban Five
Havana, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) An experience exchange called “Five Days for the Cuban Five” will be the beginning in this capital today of a global program of solidarity with the Cuban antiterrorist fighters, about to turn 15 years imprisoned in the United States. The campaign will run until October 6, to mobilize international public opinion to achieve the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, and Fernando Gonzalez.

Syria and Rhetoric on Chemical Weapons
Damascus (Prensa Latina) The rhetoric about the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government pushes events toward a possible military aggression which, in the opinion of heads of state and political experts, could ignite the region. After the so-called armed opposition argued the authorities had used toxic agents on August 21, a virulent campaign was unleashed by the media and some Western capitals and the Middle East against Damascus, with threats preceding an almost imminent attack.
