The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Drought in Europe leaves shocking images of its famous rivers without water

President of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources evaluates investments in the aqueduct in Villa Clara

Restored Martí canvas damaged by the Saratoga explosion
After more than two months of intense work in the easel painting restoration workshop of the Office of the City Historian, the canvas of the Apostle that presided over the lobby of the Martí Theater has recovered its original appearance and is ready to be be displayed. This was one of the works that were damaged by the shock wave of the explosion that occurred on May 6 at the Hotel Saratoga. The piece, by Cuban painter Miguel Díaz Salinero (1874-1944).

Cuban loves of Agustín Lara
The year is 1932 and Agustín Lara begins a frantic race towards fame. He makes his first international tour on that date. In Paris he snatches the French and one of his compositions, Farolito, becomes a fashionable tune there. It is around that time that he makes his first trip to the Cuban capital, in the company of Pedro Vargas and Ana María Fernández. He returns in May 1939 and then makes a profession of love for Cuba. Tourism in Sancti Spíritus puts its foot on the accelerator
The tourist operation in the province of Sancti Spíritus recovers progressively. Hugo Rius Blein: Journalism, like bread and water
This Friday, August 26, Hugo Rius Blein, José Martí National Journalism Award winner for his life’s work, passed away. The interview that follows is just over five years old. From it emerged (and vice versa) a television capsule that we have placed at the end of the text. With it, the Union of Cuban Journalists remembers his life and his dedication to journalism. Hugo was born on August 23, 1940 in the Havana neighborhood of Luyanó, where he also became an adult.

Hugo Rius, José Martí National Prize for Journalism, passed away
Hugo Rius Blein, José Martí National Prize for Journalism 2008 for his life’s work, passed away on this day. A contributor to Cubadebate and a journalist for the Prensa Latina agency, he also served as an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana. He began his professional work in 1962 at the Prensa Latina agency. He was a correspondent for this agency in various countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Cuba participates in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council
The member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, participated virtually in the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which took place in the city of Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, on August 25 and 26 .
