Cuba maintains tourist activity despite Covid-19 restrictions

Cuba maintains tourist activity with strict hygiene and safety protocols, despite restrictions in the country’s territories, due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. The Cuban Ministry of Tourism released an update of the health protocol to continue operations in the country’s major destinations.
According to the measures, posted on the Ministry’s website, it is essential that international travelers produce a negative PCR test done 72 hours before arriving in Cuba.

Another Helms-Burton lawsuit fails

Miami federal judge James Lawrence King has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Florida citizen, under Title III of the illegal Helms-Burton Act, against Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise operator which includes Cuba among its destinations. The dismissed case, one of the first filed based on the infamous Helms-Burton Act, was initiated by Javier Garcia Bengochea last year in the South Florida U.S. District Court and sought compensation on the grounds that the plaintiff had commercial property rights

Contacts of Italian tourists with Covid-19 are asymptomatic and quarantined

All have been placed under clinical and epidemiological observation to determine their condition if symptoms should appear. If any suspicious symptoms are noted over the next few days, testing of nasopharyngeal swab samples will be conducted and if confirmed as positive for the coronavirus, patients will be transferred to the Villa Clara Military Hospital, as established in the Plan for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19. With the three Italian tourists in Trinidad confirmed as the first cases of Covid-19 in Cuba.

Cuba’s goal is to reach 4.5 million visitors this year, a figure that can be achieved with no problem if directives and work projections, discussed February 28 during the leisure industry’s annual review, are implemented. The annual review was also attended by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero; Mercedes López Acea, member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee’s Political Bureau and Secretariat; and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos García Granda, among other authorities.
