South Africa Vice President Reiterates Support to Cuba vs. Blockade

Vice President Cyril Ramaphosa reiterated the support of South Africa to the struggle for lifting the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed to Cuba by the United States for more than 50 years.
We want the blockade to be eliminated, Ramaphosa told exclusively Prensa Latina at the end of a meeting with the Cuban Council of State’ Vice President Salvador Valdes who is on an official visit until today in South Africa, where he is attending the 25th African Union (AU) Summit.

Biennial of Havana to Exhibit Works Dedicated to Alicia Alonso

The Cuban plastic artist Jesus Lara exhibited on 17 June at the XII Biennial of Havana a piece dedicated to Alicia Alonso, today announced the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC).
The piece entitled “Odas en azul prusiano” will be located in the Hall of Mirrors at the Museum of the Revolution in the “Irla” show, which describes the 25 years of Lara’s artistic life. “Irla” was opened on May 28 as part of the activities of the XII Biennial of Havana.

Cuban Foreign Minister Meets with US Senators

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met in Havana on Saturday with US Republican Senators Jeff Flake, Pat Robert and Susan Collins. The meeting between the head of Cuban diplomacy and the US lawmakers was held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry. The senators, who arrived in Cuba on Friday, visited the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) and the Cuban Civil Aeronautics Institute.

Salvador Valdés Mesa, vice president of the Council of State, is heading the Cuban delegation to the 25th African Union Summit, to be held on June 14-15 in South Africa. The Cuban delegation also includes Ana Teresita González Fraga, vice minister of Foreign Affairs; Juan Manuel Rodríguez Vázquez and Carlos Fernández de Cossío Domínguez, Cuban ambassadors to the African Union and South Africa, respectively; as well as other Foreign Ministry officials.

New areas of study next year

During the 2015-2016 academic year, beginning in September, high school students in professional-technical programs (ETP) will have three new options: social work, textiles and spinning. Although enrollment in these areas of study will be available only in the provinces of La Habana, Villa Clara and Holguín, the additions reflect efforts to broaden training available to the country’s future workforce.
