The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Anniversary of historic literacy campaign celebrated
Fifty-five years ago, an army of teachers on a mission, led by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, won a great victory, defeating the ignorance suffered by the country’s people – reason enough to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the proclamation of Cuba as an illiteracy-free nation, yesterday December 22, now Educators Day.

UN General Assembly honors Fidel
On December 20, the United Nations General Assembly paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, who died last November 25. The special tribute was organized by Cuba’s permanent commission to the UN, following a request by a group of countries from several continents.

Cuba and the United States sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Seismology
The Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), through the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS), and the US Department of the Interior, through the US Geological Survey (USGS), signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the cooperation in the exchange of information on seismic records and related geological information this afternoon of December 20.

Cuba denounces blockade at World Trade Organization
On December 19, Cuba highlighted before the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the U.S. blockade remains in effect and is practically unchanged, while it continues to be the principal obstacle to the country’s development. This according to Alina Revilla, the island’s commercial representative to the UN in Geneva and other international organizations based in Switzerland, participating in the 13th U.S. Trade Policy Review at the WTO.
