The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Young Cubans call for the return of the territory illegally occupied by the U.S. in Guantánamo
Young Cuban artists participating in the Jornada de la Canción Política (Festival of Political Song) once again called for the return of our territory, occupied by the U.S. at the illegal Guantanamo Naval Base.
During a tour of the communities of Caimanera and Boquerón, bordering the military enclave, participants performed and exchanged with residents, while stating their position calling for the return of this portion of Cuban soil which for more than a century has been occupied by the United States.

Latin America Destiny Would Be Different without Sao Paolo Forum

Ernesto Lecuona is Reborn in Cuba 120 Years After Birth
The Marti Theater of this capital looked its best in a homage by The Cuban National Ballet to master Ernesto Lecuona, who was reborn to his music and dance 120 years after his birth.
Through elegant and precise interpretations, the company recreated yesterday essential pieces of the repertoire of Lecuona, known as the most universal of Cuban musicians. The director of the Cuban National Ballet, Alicia Alonso, accompanied her dancers in a special performance that made inmortal to who she described as an extraordinary creator, defender of significant characteristics of our idiosyncracy.

Popular Cuban and Puerto Rican Bands to Share A Concert in Havana
Puerto Rican reggae band Cultura Profetica will give a concert today in Havana together with the popular Cuban band Buena Fe. The Plaza de San Francisco de Asis -located in the heart of the Historic Center of Havana- will host the concert organized by the Office of the Historian, RTV Comercial, Musicuba and record label EGREM. Cultura Profetica was created in 1996 for the need of a group of musicians to express their social concerns through roots reggae, a subgenre of reggae.

Malaysian firm to market Cuban vaccine against cancer
Malaysian biotechnology firm Bioven, which is currently undertaking Phase III clinical trials of a promising Cuban vaccine against cancer, plans to list the medicine on the London stock exchange, following a fruitful collaboration with Cuba. The relationship of the Caribbean country with Bioven, a company in which the Malaysian government is one of the major shareholders, is an example of South-South cooperation, Elnartd Blanco, commercial manager of CIMAB, the distributor for the Cuban Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM), who created the vaccine, told Prensa Latina.

Cuba finishes fourth at the 2015 Pan American Games
The Cuban delegation finished fourth in the medal count at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games in Canada, with a total of 36 gold, 27 silver and 27 bronze medals. The boxing saw the biggest gains for the island with six titles, won by Andy Cruz, in the 56 kilogram division, Lázaro Álvarez (60kg), Arlen López (75kg), Julio César la Cruz (81kg), Erislandy Savon (91kg) and Lenier Peró (91+kg). Cuban boxers also added four silver medals to the total with Joahnys Argilagos (49kg), Yosbany Veitía (52kg), Yasnier Toledo (64kg) and Roniel Iglesias (69kg), who were affected in some cases by questionable decisions from the judges.

The world pays tribute to Comandante Hugo Chávez
This Tuesday, July 28, across several regions of the world the 61st anniversary of the birth of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez was commemorated. In the Cuartel de la Montaña (Mountain Barracks), where the remains of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution lie, huge numbers of Venezuelans paid tribute to him, according to reports from Prensa Latina.The tribute was led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, who spoke of the figure and the legacy of Chávez.

U.S. withdraws Cuba from its unilateral list of traffickers in persons
Monday July 27, the United States withdrew Cuba from its list which every year evaluates governmental actions taken to confront trafficking in persons, and other forms of exploitation, according to PL.
In a report on 188 countries, elaborated unilaterally by the State Department, Cuba’s efforts to combat such trafficking were recognized. Sarah Sewall, under secretary of state for human rights, explained that Washington believes Cuba is making progress in this area and recognizes the country’s commitment to abide by minimum standards.
