Doctors of yesterday, today and tomorrow

Fidel’s name was repeated often during celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the first graduation of doctors and dentists trained by the Revolution, who received their diplomas atop Mt. Cuba in the Sierra Maestra, November 14, 1965.
Today, many health care professionals remember the interest shown by the leader of the Cuban Revolution in their studies, always alert to their living conditions, and those of classrooms.

Pablo Milanés wins Latin Grammy Award

The singer-songwriter and composer Pablo Milanés, founder of the New Trova movement along with Silvio Ro dríguez and Noel Nicola, received yesterday, November 18, a Latin Grammy Awardfor Musical Excellence, given his important contributions to music. During the ceremony, held Wednesday 18, in Las Vegas, the United States, the legendary Cuban trova musician, author of 40 albums and memorable songs such as “Yolanda” and “El Bre ve espacio en que no estás,” received the accolade along with other outstanding musicians from the Latin American scene.

Cuba and U.S. sign memorandum of understanding

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation for the Conservation and Management of Protected Marine Areas is the first document regarding environmental issues, to be signed between Cuba and the U.S. since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations, noted Dr. Fernando Mario González Ber múdez, first deputy minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).

Titan Tropic Cuba: An adventure into the unknown

At first glance, the name doesn’t convey much, but the Titan Tropic Cuba is nothing more, or less, than a replica of the traditional mountain bike race, the Titan Desert, held for over a decade now in Morocco’s deserts, dunes and mountains. The race will debut in western Cuba December 5-10, with the participation of up to 150 cyclists representing about a dozen countries, including several winners and medalists of previous Titan Desert races.

Cuba shares celebration with Angolan people

Salvador Valdés Mesa, a vice president of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers arrived yesterday, November 10, in Luanda, leading the country’s delegation to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Angola’s independence.
Valdés Mesa was received at the airport by Agriculture Minister Pedro Canga and subsequently by the President of Angola’s National Assembly Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

FARC-EP suspends arms and munitions purchases

The guerilla commander explained on his Twitter account that he had issued the order to suspend the purchase of arms and munitions on September 30. He also made a call to reduce the intensity of the military conflict, which has caused the death of some 300,000 Colombians over the course of half a century.

Marabana 2015: An unprecedented avalanche of participants
