The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Party Political Bureau analyzes key issues in the economic and social life of the country

Yesterday morning, November 24, the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee met, chaired by its first secretary, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz. The meeting began with a minute of silence in honor of Vice Admiral Julio César Gandarilla Bermejo.

New agrarian extension policy in Cuba, more efficient and effective

A proposal for agrarian extension policy in Cuba was presented during the customary meeting held yesterday by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez with scientists, experts and producers, linked to food and nutritional sovereignty. Díaz-Canel noted that the proposal is a result of these meetings now conducted on a weekly basis.

The agenda included analysis of several laws that will be submitted to the National Assembly of People’s Power for approval, among these were the Law of the President and the Vice President of the Republic; one governing Revocation of elected members of People’s Power bodies; the law establishing Organization and Functioning of the Provincial Government of People’s Power; as well as the Law of Municipal Administration Council Organization and Functioning.

Regional economy faces pandemic’s impact

Member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) approved an Economic Contingency Plan to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact, following the 20th Political Council meeting and the 10th Economic Council of the regional bloc in virtual format. Caribbean cooperation to confront COVID-19 and economic challenges

First of all I would like to welcome the initiative of the government of Barbados, as chair of the Association of Caribbean States Council of Ministers, of convening this online meeting. COVID-19, the epicenter of which has now moved to our region, generating a health crisis of huge proportions, is threatening all our lives, thus confirming the need for cooperation and solidarity to confront the pandemic, as well as the increasing challenges resulting from the situation that has been created.

Producing more food, more quickly

ithin the current context marked by the tightening of the U.S. blockade against Cuba and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on key sectors of the national economy, boosting food production is essential. Presently, Cuba imports some 800,000 tons of corn and spends 550 million dollars on animal feed, an unsustainable dependency which obliges us to focus on banishing the import mentality. Regarding the province of Artemisa Machado Ventura reiterated the importance of preparing all arable land and using certified seeds.

Continue work to combat COVID-19 with rigor and precision

President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez called to continue work to contain the virus with great precision and rigor – and the support of the population – since the success of our efforts to confront the pandemic depend on these principles, during the March 31 meeting of the Cuban government, to review the COVID-19 situation in the country, make decisions to advance the effort, and evaluate those made previously, as has become the norm every afternoon.

Cuba advances in implementation of prevention plan

“This is not a plan of slogans, this is a realistic plan, to be executed with absolute precision,” said the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, leading the third regional meeting to follow up on Covid-19 prevention and control plans, held in this eastern city, with public health, Party and government authorities in attendance, from the provinces of Holguín, Camagüey, Las Tunas, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo.
