The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

French Festival in Cuba to Screen 14 Films
The 21st French Film Festival will premiere 14 contemporary French feature films from April 11th to 22nd, said organizers of the event. The festival has scheduled more than 100 screenings during two weeks, which totals 24 productions that include three documentaries, five classic feature films and one cartoon.

Mexicans Will Exhibit Cuban Work on Perez Prado
The Mexican Independent Company ”Conjuro Teatro” will premiere at the City Theater ”Yo soy el rey del mambo,” by Cuban playwright Ulises Rodriguez, the House of Scenic Memory (CME) confirmed here today. Directed by Dana Stella Aguilar, the group will perform on April 13, 14 and 15 in the aforementioned hall, in the Mexican capital, with a stage performance that pays homage to Damaso Perez Prado.

Cubans Remember 61st Anniversary of Presidential Palace Attack
Cubans are remembering today the 61st Anniversary of the Attack on the Presidential Palace, the national news radio station ”Radio Reloj” in Havana and the death of student leader José Antonio Echeverría in March, 1957. Those armed actions were carried out by a group of youth from the Revolutionary Directorate, armed wing of the University Students Federation.

How is the President elected in Cuba?
The person who becomes the President of Cuba’s Council of State is chosen through a process that entails several steps, with the people and their elected representatives participating directly. There is no need to dig through Cuba’s Election Law no.72, dated October 29, 1992, to find the answer. How do elections work in Cuba?
THE Cuban election system is different from all others that exist around the world, and is young institutionally. Established in the 1976 Constitution, which took effect on February 24 that year, the People’s Power structure has been in place for more than 40 years. Among the elements that characterize elections here is the term unity, essential for the protection of the country’s independence. The country is led by a single party, that is not electoral in nature, does not nominate candidates, but serves as the guiding force in state affairs and society.

Cuba to Host International Meeting on History, Art and Medicine
Health curiosities and their links with history and art will be the main topics of the international colloquium Histarmed, which will bring together researchers from some 10 countries in Latin America and Europe, said organizers today.
