The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

No new cases of Covid-19 in Cuba in last 48 hours
The four Covid-19 patients identified remain hospitalized and are progressing satisfactorily, with all resources needed to ensure their full recovery available; while efforts to prevent the spread of the pandemic within the country continue. Dr. Carmelo Trujillo Machado, head of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) Department of International Health Control, reported this information Sunday in a press conference, and emphasized that the implementation of all measures established.

Diaz-Canel calls for intensifying measures to confront Covid-19, and continuing work with the population
President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez called for continuing to work with the population and intensify measures the country is taking to confront Covid-19, now that the Ministry of Public Health has confirmed its presence on the island. Leading a meeting to review implementation of the Plan for the Prevention and Control of the disease, which is present in 111 countries, the President directed authorities to increase monitoring, thoroughly investigate suspected and confirmed cases.

Contacts of Italian tourists with Covid-19 are asymptomatic and quarantined
All have been placed under clinical and epidemiological observation to determine their condition if symptoms should appear. If any suspicious symptoms are noted over the next few days, testing of nasopharyngeal swab samples will be conducted and if confirmed as positive for the coronavirus, patients will be transferred to the Villa Clara Military Hospital, as established in the Plan for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19. With the three Italian tourists in Trinidad confirmed as the first cases of Covid-19 in Cuba.

Three tourists visiting Cuba test positive for new coronavirus
Our country has been preparing to face the pandemic caused by the appearance of a new coronavirus, which has impacted more than a hundred countries, to date, causing a significant number of cases of illness and deaths. As a result of the implementation of the National Plan for the Prevention and Control of the disease, and intensive monitoring of respiratory syndromes, suspicious cases have been identified and patients admitted to hospitals.

Cuba advances in implementation of prevention plan

Cuban Government updates Plan for prevention and control of Covid-19
Army General Raul Castro Ruz, Party first secretary, led a meeting of the Political Bureau this week to consider new measures to contain the introduction and spreading of Covid-19 in our country, while yesterday, the Council of Ministers approved an updated plan to confront the new coronavirus. To date, no cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Cuba. Nevertheless, the Council of Ministers, in an extraordinary session approved an updated version of the Plan for the Prevention and Control of the new coronavirus.

New brain mapping project
It was agreed that Cuba, China, and Canada will work together on a new joint brain mapping project, after a recent meeting on the subject held at Cuba’s Neurosciences Center (Cneuro). According to Pedro Valdés Sosa PhD, coordinator of the Cuban Brain Mapping Project, launched over 10 years ago, the three countries have agreed to promote research on early detection and management of pathological aging in the brain; and set up an academic exchange program toward this end.

Obesity: A global health problem affecting Cuba
With an 18.1% increase over recent years in the number of overweight women in Cuba, and an increase of 11.4% in regards to men; the island’s government and health authorities have expressed their concern over the rising rate of obesity across all age groups of both genders.
