The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Raul said that Miguel Diaz-Canel, Esteban Lazo, Ramiro Valdes, Salvador Valdes, Leopoldo Cintra, Bruno Rodriguez, Marino Murillo, Mercedes Lopez, Alvaro Lopez and Ramon Espinosa were reelected members of the Politburo.

The final session of the 7th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) began in this capital, attended by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Army General Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC. A volley of applause greeted Fidel in the plenary hall of Havana’s Convention Center, where delegates, standing, chorused “Fidel! Fidel! Fidel!”

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee deposited the ballot completed by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, before voting himself for a new Central Committee, yesterday April 18. “First I’m going to deposit that of the jefe and then mine”, Raúl said, showing the press the envelope containing his brother Fidel’s vote.

Painting of Fidel unveiled at Fidel Castro School in Katutura, Namibia

With a simple but moving ceremony a painting of the Commander in Chief of five meters high by five wide was unveiled on the wall of the entrance to the elementary school “Fidel Castro”. It was painted by Cuban artist based in Windhoek, Yasiel Palomino, who replaced the old one deteriorated by weather and wind.

Vilma Espín, a role model for Cuban women

Vilma Espín Guillois, born in Santiago de Cuba 86 years ago, on April 7, 1930, was characterized by her human qualities, including strong family principles, a sense of justice and condemnation of lies, banality and superficiality (1). Despite her comfortable background, she rejected the social situation she witnessed in Cuba, wondering, “Why are there beggars on the street?” and questioning as to how to solve the problem (2).
