Fidel & Raúl vote for new Central Committee

Raul vota congreso pccArmy General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee deposited the ballot completed by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, before voting himself for a new Central Committee, yesterday April 18.

“First I’m going to deposit that of the jefe and then mine”, Raúl said, showing the press the envelope containing his brother Fidel’s vote.

Immediately thereafter, Raúl exercised his right to vote, adding, “Until the next Congress!”

Earlier in the day, the 993 delegates at the Congress approved the candidates nominated, and then cast a secret ballot to elect Committee members.

Scheduled for today, the final day of the 7th Congress, is the closing session and the announcement of the new Central Committee, Political Bureau, as well as the First and Second Party Secretaries.
