The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Confirmed in Florida, USA, 23 deaths from the passage of Hurricane Ian
The authorities of Florida, United States, confirmed this Friday that at least 23 people died as a result of Hurricane Ian, a figure that could still increase considerably. US media show higher balances citing county officials, who report up to 45 deaths due to the passage of the storm. The official figure of 23 deceased was published this Friday by the Florida Medical Examiners Commission, which also reported that the victims are between 22 and 92 years old, and most of them showed signs of drowning.

From the Fraternidad neighborhood, in Mantilla: “What I experienced in a protest”

Hurricane Ian affected 40 percent of base stations and 7 percent of telephone services in Cuba
The Telecommunications Company of Cuba S.A (Etecsa) reported that recovery work continued with the execution of cleaning tasks, restoration of cables and more than 1,200 poles affected by the force of the winds and fallen trees. They pointed out that, after the passage of Hurricane Ian, more than 100,000 interrupted fixed services were registered, representing 15% of the total telephone lines of the five provinces that were under the influence of this meteorological event.

Mexican planes arrive in Cuba to contribute to the recovery after the passage of Ian

Considerable damage reported in the tobacco sector of San Juan and Martínez
Conrado López González directs one of the main tobacco producing cooperatives in the municipality of San Juan y Martínez, in Pinar del Río. To talk with the producer, we went to Obeso’s choice, which, like a five-door tobacco house, was left on the ground by the passage of Hurricane Ian. Before, we passed through the rubble of one of the 38 controlled cure houses that the territory has. “The cyclone completely knocked down the tobacco house,” says López González as he points to the entire structure on the ground.

Tropical Storm Ian will intensify this Sunday
Tropical storm Ian during this morning has gained in organization, although it remains with little change in its intensity. It continues with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, and a central pressure of 1002 hectoPascal. Its movement has turned towards the west-northwest, slowing down to 19 kilometers per hour. At six in the morning, its central region was estimated at 15.0 degrees North latitude and 78.9 degrees West longitude.

Civil Defense issues early warning on tropical depression nine
The National Civil Defense Staff reports that, according to the information from the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology in its warning of tropical cyclone No 2 on Tropical Depression No 9 of the current cyclonic season, the forecast models indicate a high probability of organization and intensification of this hydrometeorological event during the approach to the western and central regions of the country, being able to reach the category of hurricane.
