Hurricane Ian affected 40 percent of base stations and 7 percent of telephone services in Cuba

huracan etecsaThe Telecommunications Company of Cuba S.A (Etecsa) reported that recovery work continued with the execution of cleaning tasks, restoration of cables and more than 1,200 poles affected by the force of the winds and fallen trees.

They pointed out that, after the passage of Hurricane Ian, more than 100,000 interrupted fixed services were registered, representing 15% of the total telephone lines of the five provinces that were under the influence of this meteorological event.

On the other hand, they clarified, the national energy situation directly affects the operation of radio bases and cabinets, so the mobile service and part of the fixed telephony will be restored as the electricity supply resumes.

From Etecsa they pointed out that at the close of this information on Thursday, September 29, the affectation reported by this concept is 40% of the total number of radio base sites and 7% of the country’s telephone services. “Our local and support forces are working to shorten outage times.”
