The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Rogelio Martínez Furé, 2015 National Prize for Literature

January 1 gala dedicated to the triumph of the Revolution in Havana’s newly renovated Alicia Alonso Gran Teatro
Havana’s Alicia Alonso Gran Teatro will open its doors January 1, 2016, after a three-year renovation, with the customary gala dedicated to the triumph of the Revolution. Included will be a performance entitled Tríptico Clásico by the Cuban National Ballet, in Federico García Lorca Hall, accompanied by the theater’s orchestra conducted by Giovanny Duarte.

Movie lovers descend on Havana

Danny Glover back in Cuba
Today, U.S. actor Danny Glover arrived in Cuba, a country he has been visiting for over 20 years, and to which he always returns with an open heart ready to listen, learn and grow, reports Prensa Latina. Glover’s encounter with Gerardo Hernández, who he visited on many occasions while the decorated Hero of the Republic of Cuba was unjustly imprisoned in a California penitentiary, was a jovial one.

Opening the doors to artisans
Just like every year, Cuba’s largest crafts fair is back. December 4-20, the Pabexpo exposition center will host the 19th edition of Fiart, an event which attracts artisans from across the world to the Cuban capital, in order to showcase and sell their products, ranging from textiles and footwear, to all manner of decorative objects.

Rebel Slave Museum re-inaugurated
With the conclusion of a two year restoration project, re-inaugurated November 3 was the Rebel Slave Museum located at the former sugar plantation, Triunvirato, scene of the November 5, 1843 slave rebellion led by the Gangá Manuel, Lucumies Eduardo, Felipe, Narciso and the legendary Carlota.

Ethan Hawke and other Hollywood stars to attend Havana film festival
U.S. actor and four-times Oscar nominee, Ethan Hawke, figures among the foreign personalities attending the 37th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which will present 444 films in the capital from December 3-13, 159 in the competitive selection. According to event organizers, following the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, more requests than the event could accept have arrived from the U.S.

Today, Alicia Alonso and the National Ballet of Cuba received Princess Caroline of Monaco and director of the Monte Carlo Ballet, Jean-Christophe Maillot, here for the 16th Havana International Theatre Festival. During a tour of the company’s headquarters, on Calzada 510 in the Havana neighborhood of Vedado, the visitors stopped in to watch rehearsals for the piece Tiempo de Danzón; inwhich Cuban choreographerEduardo Blanco offers a contemporary perspective on this traditional Cuban dance.
