Cuban musicians bring home Latin Grammys

The Septeto Santiaguero won its first Latin Grammy last night, November 19, in the category of Best Traditional Tropical Album for its CD No quiero llanto. Tributo a Los Compadres, recorded with Dominican José Alberto, “El Canario.” The 2015 awards ceremony took place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, where other winners included Calle 13 and Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez for the video clip Ojos color sol; and Alex Cuba, for Healer. Pablo Milanés was recognized for his life long contributions with an Award for Musical Excellence.

Pablo Milanés wins Latin Grammy Award

The singer-songwriter and composer Pablo Milanés, founder of the New Trova movement along with Silvio Ro dríguez and Noel Nicola, received yesterday, November 18, a Latin Grammy Awardfor Musical Excellence, given his important contributions to music. During the ceremony, held Wednesday 18, in Las Vegas, the United States, the legendary Cuban trova musician, author of 40 albums and memorable songs such as “Yolanda” and “El Bre ve espacio en que no estás,” received the accolade along with other outstanding musicians from the Latin American scene.

Cuba and U.S. sign memorandum of understanding

Cuba shares celebration with Angolan people

Salvador Valdés Mesa, a vice president of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers arrived yesterday, November 10, in Luanda, leading the country’s delegation to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Angola’s independence.
Valdés Mesa was received at the airport by Agriculture Minister Pedro Canga and subsequently by the President of Angola’s National Assembly Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
