Raul Castro Welcomes North Korean Military Delegation

Havana, July 2 (Prensa Latina) President Raul Castro welcomed in this capital Kim Kyok Sik, Chief of General Staff of the Army of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). Both leaders talked about the historic ties between their countries, and expressed the common will to continue the relations, Cuba’s nightly TV news program reported yesterday.DPRK ambassador to Havana Jon Yong Jin, and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) of Cuba, Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias participated in the meeting.

Havana, May 7 (Prensa Latina) The return to Cuba of the four anti-terrorist fighters who remain imprisoned in the United States is a priority for Rene Gonzalez, who started the procedures to renounce his U.S. citizenship yesterday in this capital. “Until they all are here we must continue fighting (…) They will resist, they will not yield,” Rene told the reporters after beginning the procedures to renounce his citizenship at the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, accompanied by his lawyer Philip Horowitz.

Havana, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro arrived in Cuba his first official visit as President, informed the media today. According to Granma newspaper, he was received at the airport by Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, member of the Politburo and Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Venezuelan President is attending the 13th Intergovernmental Committee Meeting Cuba-Venezuela, being held since yesterday here.

René is being held on U.S. soil for three years of supervised release, despite having served his sentence, and following the death of his father, Candido Gonzalez, he asked for permission to the Court for the Southern District of Florida to be with his family.

Cuba Presents Report to Human Rights Council

Havana, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s Foreign Ministry officially presented today the Report to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Human Rights Council, scheduled to take place on May 1 in Geneva, Switzerland. The document focuses on the recommendations accepted by Cuba in February 2009, when the first UPR cycle was presented, disclosed sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, body responsible for drawing up the text.
