The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuban Baseball Federation and MLB reach historic agreement

Roel Santos: I never give up or tire
Just as happened to Alfredo Despaigne in Santiago de Cuba, Roel Santos was rejected at the provincial sports academy for being “too small,” despite some spectacular fielding in his debut for the school team. The “problem” of his size to one side, the young boy who a year before, at the age of nine, was brought by community sports facilitator Juan Luis Yuri to the Academy in the neighborhood of Miramar, shone on the field.

Six Cuban baseball players to feature in Can-Am League
Yurisbel Gracial, Lázaro Blanco, Miguel Lahera, Alexander Ayala, Julio Pablo Martínez and Yordan Manduley will join the ranks of teams from the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball (Can-Am) League, which kicks off May 8 through the first week of September, as part of a collaborative initiative between the Cuban Baseball Federation and the aforementioned organization.

55th National Baseball Series underway
Miracles do exist and proof was the fact that just a few drops of rain fell over Ciego de Ávila this Sunday, despite forecasts of strong winds and rain for the inauguration of this 55th National Baseball Series. With a game to meet expectations, the balls and strikes returned to the home field of the Tigers, the current champions of the series, who saw their first victory (5-1) against Isla de la Juventud.

Cuba Defeats Holland 4-1 in Rotterdam
Coming off an embarrassing loss to Curacao on Friday, Cuba defeated the much tougher host Holland team on Sunday, by a score of 4-1 at the World Port Baseball Tournament in Rotterdam. Yadier Pedroso pitched a complete game allowing scattering five hits and striking out nine. He lost a shutout bid when Holland scored a lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

One had to be there to see it: A sea of people on the streets despite the heat, the strong sunlight and the long wait to welcome the baseball team. After a tour through several municipalities of the province the team of Alfonso Urquiola returned to Pinar del Rio where tens of thousands were awaiting to thank him for the dream come true of being champions again. One by one went up the stage: Lorenzo Quintana, David Castillo, Vladimir Baños, Norlis Concepción, Yosvani Torres, Yovani Peraza… all of them full of joy, waving the people and dancing with good reggeaton.
