The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Scientific Forum Dedicated to Cuban Anthropologist Fernando Ortiz
To favor the analysis of essays and projects linked to the study of Cuban roots, the Forum on Fernando Ortiz will be held from July 21 to 24, informed organizers. The Group of Research and Development of the Culture Provincial Direction in Matanzas, summoned the tenth edition of the theoretical event named after the eminent anthropologist, lawyer, archaeologist, journalist and ethnologist.

Cubans, Americans Compete at Havana Coastline
As part of the U.S.-Cuba regatta Havana Challenge in this capital, five Hobbie Cat 16 sailboats are competing today at the Havana coastline in an unprecedented tourist competition for 50 years.
They are very quickly and unpredictable sailboats that will allow more than a sports event, a symbol of friendship between U.S. and Cuban citizens. The arrival this weekend to this capital of the Havana Challenge regatta, in addition of being a challenge to ocean currents, foster friendship, as the organizers from both countries conceive it.

Angolan and Cuban Vice Presidents hold official talks
During their meeting, the leaders discussed the excellent bilateral relations shared by the two countries and emphasized the historic nature of the friendship between their peoples and governments. Serbian President Arrives in Cuba on Official Visit
Serbia’s President Tomislav Nikolic begins today an official visit to Cuba, in which he will hold talks with the island’s Head of State, Raul Castro.
A note from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that during his stay here, Nikolic will develop different activities.Early this month, Nikolic and Raul Castro met in Moscow, where both leaders participated in the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

Cuban Small Farmers Consider Positive Agricultural Cooperative
The 11th Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) assessed as positive the economic activity the cooperatives are developing, and called for a more comprehensive use of bank credit and insurance. ANAP President Rafael Santiesteban said during the final session of the event closed this weekend that the working commission carried out an extensive debate.

68 World Health Assembly Opens in Geneva
Other issues will be also discussed, such as the world vaccination plan to reduce rates of malaria, the effects of pollution on health, medicines below standard, illegitimate products, with deceptive or forged labeling. The opening ceremony will be chaired by outgoing president Roberto Morales Ojeda, minister of Health of Cuba, who led the assembly last year. Search for Garcia Lorca”s Remains Might Be Resumed in Andalusia
The search for the remains of Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca might be resumed in July, depending on economic resources and administrative permits, according to archeologist Javier Navarro. The technical director of the project to find common graves from the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) in Alfacar, Granada, told Prensa Latina that he was certain about the area where the remains of the assassinated intellectual are buried.

Serbian President to Visit Cuba
Serbian President Tomislav Nikoli will arrive in Cuba on Monday, May 18, to pay an official visit, Granma newspaper reported on Saturday. During his stay in Havana, Nikoli will hold official talks with Cuban President Raul Castro and will participate in other events.

Authorities Denounce Campaigns to Criminalize Venezuela
Venezuelan authorities this week denounced several campaigns from Colombia and Spain to criminalize the South American nation. According to National Assembly (Parliament)Speaker Diosdado Cabello, the fair treatment of the Colombians who cross the border to settle here is guaranteed in this country. In that regards, Cabello questioned the statements by Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin, who said that the situation in Venezuela was “difficult”, and urged to hold talks to establish a bi-national commission to analyze the cases of deportation.

AE’s Government Sends Doctors, Field Hospital to Nepal
Government and health authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday confirmed that a field hospital and a medical team had been sent to Nepal to mitigate the needs from the victims of recent earthquakes. The state-run news agency WAM quoted sources saying that the field hospital arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, last Thursday, to provide assistance to the victims of the earthquakes on April 25 and May 11.
