The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

In the presence of the delegates and guests to the 7th Cuban Communist Party Congress, the closing session of which was attended by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, Raul informed that Jose Ramon Machado Ventura will continue his work as Second Secretary.
Raul said that Miguel Diaz-Canel, Esteban Lazo, Ramiro Valdes, Salvador Valdes, Leopoldo Cintra, Bruno Rodriguez, Marino Murillo, Mercedes Lopez, Alvaro Lopez and Ramon Espinosa were reelected members of the Politburo.

Fidel and Raul Attend Final Session of 7th PCC Congress
The final session of the 7th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) began in this capital, attended by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Army General Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC. A volley of applause greeted Fidel in the plenary hall of Havana’s Convention Center, where delegates, standing, chorused “Fidel! Fidel! Fidel!”

Fidel & Raúl vote for new Central Committee
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee deposited the ballot completed by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, before voting himself for a new Central Committee, yesterday April 18. “First I’m going to deposit that of the jefe and then mine”, Raúl said, showing the press the envelope containing his brother Fidel’s vote.

Three Cuban Physicians Died in Ecuador’s Earthquake
As a result of the earthquake of 7.8 degrees on the Richter scale that shook the coastal area of Esmeralda and Manabi provinces in Ecuador, three Cuban health workers offering their services in that country died, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health informed. The bodies of Barbara Caridad Cruz Ruiz, 46; Leonardo Ortiz Estrada, 53, and Eric Perez de Alejo Omar Quesada, 41; all specialists in General Comprehensive Medicine and residents of Villa Clara province, were found under the rubble of a building that totally collapsed in the municipality of Pedernales, Manabi.

Cuban doctors depart for Ecuador to assist quake victims
A Cuban 26-member emergency medical brigade departed for Ecuador on Sunday, as hundreds of other Cuban doctors are in that country assisting the victims of the 7.8 quake that has caused huge human loss and property damage in the coastal zone of that South American nation.

Raul Castro expresses his condolences and support to Ecuador
Cuban President Raul Castro on Monday sent a message of condolences to his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa after the 7.8 quake that caused over 270 deaths and more than 2 thousand injured in the South American country. Please, receive my deepest condolences, which I extend to the relatives of the victims and the Ecuadorian people, as well as our solidarity, said Raul in his message.
