The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Venezuela Presidential Election Campaign Set to Begin
Caracas, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela is on the verge of the campaign launch for the presidential elections scheduled on April 14, and candidates supported by various political organizations are taking their places. The focus is on two main candidates, Nicolas Maduro, of the Great Patriotic Pole and the opposition candidate, Henrique Capriles, representative of the so-called Democratic Unity Table (MUD).

Intellectuals in Venezuela Stress Validity of Chavez’s Thought
Caracas, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) The 10th International Meeting of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Activists in Favor of Humanity will conclude today in this capital, where the legacy of late President Hugo Chavez has been the focus of homage and extensive consideration. According to organizers, the presentation of a document is planned for today, following the first session of the meeting where more than 200 national and foreign figures examined the revolutionary ideas of the Venezuelan head of State.

Syria: Attacks in Damascus Kill one, Damage Infrastructure
Damascus, Mar 26 (PL) At least one student died and others were injured today after several mortars fell at a school in the neighborhood of Bab Sharki, in the so called Old Damascus.Two similar projectiles struck in Tuesday morning in the busy area of Baramkeh, near the headquarters of the news agency SANA, in this capital.Several people were injured and property damage was reported in surrounding buildings and vehicles. Early reports make reference to several people injured and considerable property damage.

Cuba’s Role at Human Rights Council Decisive
Geneva, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuba played a decisive role at the 22nd regular session of the Human Rights Council here, where important resolutions were promoted, while selectivity, double standards, and Western accusations against certain Southern countries were opposed. According to a communique released today by Havana’s embassy in Geneva, the United Nations has adopted by consensus the proposal made by Cuba on the right to food, agreeing to continue to deal with that issue in the Council.

Changes in Education and Science for Development, FARC-EP Says
Havana, Mar 21 (Prensa Latina) The democratic transformation of the Colombian countryside involves changes in education, science, and technology, the guerrilla representation in peace talks with the government of that country said today in this capital. About this issue, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) released six minimum proposals to improve the situation in these areas, in which dozens of previous proposals are included to promote agriculture and rural development.
