In the spirit of Girón, of an uncompromising, invincible people, the closing day of the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba began, with Army General Raúl Castro Ruz on hand.

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic, was also present.

During the final day of the event, which began April 16 at the Havana Convention Center, results of the vote to elect members of the Central Committee will be announced along with agreements adopted in this body’s first plenary session, including the election of its first secretary and members of the Political Bureau and Secretariat.

After three days of intense debate, focused on the collective construction of the country’s future, the 8th Congress closes today with a single commitment: to defend the Revolution and to continue, at an accelerated pace, the construction of socialism – which demands a great deal. We did not inherit a complete work, but a perfectible project that we are honored to continue.
