Five thousand two hundred and seventy people had been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Cuba until last September 22, a day in which 48 new positive cases were reported , 29 of them in Havana and 11 corresponding to Ciego de Ávila, a province that continues showing a high spread of the disease throughout its territory.
At the close of the working day on Wednesday, during the meeting of the temporary group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus that is led daily by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; the Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa, and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, precisely from that central province, Governor Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas reported that 187 infected people residing in the territory remained admitted to Avilanian health institutions and Camagüeyanas.
With five local transmission events and 22 active focus controls, Ciego de Ávila continues to show the highest incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants of Cuba in the past two weeks, a period in which 266 patients have been confirmed there. In general, he said, these are the same measures that we have been proposing in the country during these months of confrontation with the epidemic and that we are now reinforcing in Ciego de Ávila with work teams in all its municipalities, reviewing in detail the local transmission events and controls of active sources to be able to act with opportunity in each one of them.

From Matanzas, a province that reported six cases this Wednesday, all confirmed patient contacts associated with the local transmission event opened in the construction works of tourism, in the municipality of Cárdenas, Governor Mario Sabines Lorenzo explained that the taking of PCR samples to builders of all contingents and progress is being made in the study of people in communities where a high number of them reside.

Regarding the other event of local transmission that remains active in the community of Santa Marta, also in Cárdenas, Sabines Lorenzo said that there is a trend to control the disease while the last case diagnosed was on September 7.
