Havana continues COVID-19 battle

Cuba covid reunion junioHavana is the only remaining province in the country that has not made the transition to phase one of the COVID-19 recovery period. A total of 102 confirmed active cases of the new coronavirus in the province were reported, with new three cases added June 22, and most with a known source of infection; two local transmission events; an incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants of 5.20 in the last 15 days, tending to decrease over the course of this time span; and a reproductive index of 0.62.

“Strict monitoring in the province is maintained of each of these five health indicators defined by the Ministry of Public Health for the transition to different phases of the recovery stage,” stated Havana Deputy Governor Yanet Hernández Pérez, via videoconference, at the daily meeting of the COVId-19 prevention and control task force, led by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.

Hernández reported, “At this time, the only indicator that we have not met is the number of active cases, which represents 8.06% of the 1,264 cases confirmed in the capital since the beginning of the epidemic, which requires a reduction to 5% to move to phase one of the next stage.”
