The national economy needs productive chains

Diaz Canel CienfuegosThe importance of production to substitute imports, and the integration of domestic industry via productive chains, was emphasized on several occasions by the President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, during a tour of the producer and distributor of glucose, starch and derivatives of corn, Gydema (known nationally as the Glucose Factory), as part of his government visit to the province, which began yesterday.

The Cuban leader noted the potential of the plant – the only one of its kind in Cuba – and the attention to detail evident here, and called for efforts to ensure greater presence of its products in tourist facilities and retail stores, to generate income and avoid foreign currency expenditures.

Accompanying the President were Lydia Esther Brunet Nodarse, Central Committee member and Party first secretary in Cienfuegos; Mayrelis Pernía Cordero, president of the Provincial Assembly; Iris Quiñones Rojas, Minister of Food Industry; and Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, head of Agriculture.
