In honor of Bolivia’s national heroes, the First Vice President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel, laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum where the remains of former President Andrés de Santa Cruz rest, on May 26.
Accompanied by Bolivia’s Foreign Minister, Fernando Huanacuni; Minister of Culture, Wilma Alanoca; and Ambassador to Cuba, Juan Ramón Quintana; Díaz-Canel attended a parade by the country’s military police.
As part of his intense work agenda in the capital, the Cuban official is also scheduled to meet with Vice President of the Plurinational State Álvaro García Linera today, after which he will have lunch with President Evo Morales.
Speaking exclusively to Prensa Latina, Díaz-Canel stated that the Cuban delegation’s visit to Bolivia will serve to solidify opportunities for cooperation between the two governments, and expand economic and commercial ties.
The Cuban vice president arrived to the South American country this May 26, where he visited Tiwanaku, one of the country’s most important archeological and religious sites, during which he was awarded with the Illustrious Guest distinction.
Tomorrow, May 27, Díaz-Canel will travel to the Santa Cruz, an economically important department in the east of the country, where several international events are taking place.
Santa Cruz is also where the town of Vallegrande is located and a museum commemorating Che Guevara and his comrades. It is also the area through which runs the route to La Higuera, where Che was murdered on October 9, 1967.
In this regard Díaz-Canel stressed the importance of the visit, which he noted is also taking place in the year of the 50th anniversary of the death of the heroic guerilla, “who left an important legacy of the peoples of Latin America,” stated the Cuban official.
