Cuba sees 410,000 blood donations so far this year

donaciuon de sangreCuba will hold a range of activities June 6-14 in tribute to all those people across the country who have volunteered to donate blood to help save lives. So far this year, the island has received 410,000 donations.

Organized by the Public Health system and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the activities will recognize the country’s 330,000 blood donors, whose plasmas and platelets are also used in the production of medicines.

During a press conference held in the capital, it was revealed that due to its systematic fulfillment of the Blood Donation Program, Pinar del Río was selected as the Vanguard province and host of the national event to celebrate blood donors. The hospitals located across the 12 municipalities of this province see daily donations.

Dr. Luis Enrique Pérez Ulloa, head of Medical Specialties of the Ministry of Public Health, noted that thanks to the joint work of several organizations, the people of Pinar del Río have proved to be the leading blood donors of the country.

He reported that Cienfuegos, Holguín and the Special Municipality of the Isle of Youth are the leading territories in this important effort, while Havana will receive special recognition having received 100,000 donations this year, to ensure that its hospitals are equipped with the necessary amount of blood to conduct medical procedures.
